TESTIMONIALS

Working with Stephen on the score to The Lodgers was an incredibly creative process which involved finding the musical voice of the film and exploring the possibilities that presented. The end result is a haunting, hypnotic score which is a beautiful listen as well as a strong accompaniment to the story. Brian O’Malley (director, writer)

Having recently worked with Stephen Shannon on the feature documentary Pure Grit, I have nothing but positive things to say. I found the whole process an absolute joy...in every instance Stephen really listened to what I was trying to do, always offering beautiful, thoughtful suggestions and creative solutions even when under time pressure. He really managed to capture the unique landscape, the characters and the soul of the story which is an incredible thing to be able to do and the final score is testimony to Stephen’s huge talent.. his music just takes the film to another level.
Kim Bartley (director, cinematographer, writer)

Stephen worked as composer on The Lodgers, for which I was screenwriter and music associate, and his compositional voice added immeasurably to the film. Stephen’s film music is skilful, nuanced and sensitive. He responds creatively yet always appropriately to the existing image and sound world, while also – most importantly – empathetically drawing out its emotional and subtextual undercurrents.
David Turpin (screenwriter, musician)

Stephen is a key member of the creative team of Tomato Red, combining his talent as a composer and musician with extensive production experience and a strong working knowledge of the film post-production process. He's a great collaborator, very open and responsive, and keen to explore the themes of the film in detail. It was a pleasure working with him and his cool, calm approach to the challenges of the creative process ensured we always felt in safe hands. Juanita Wilson (direct, producer, writer)

We've worked with Stephen on two feature film projects - The Lodgers and The Winter Lake - and have always found him to be an incredibly creative, talented, passionate and open-minded collaborator to work with. He brings great energy and fresh ideas to every project he works on and always manages to deliver results which work for all parties involved (director, producer, financier etc) - this is often a tricky balance to strike but he manages it. His attitude is superb and his ability to exceed expectations on any brief put in front of him is very impressive. We hope to work with him many more times again in the future. Ruth Treacy (Tailored Films)

I have been aware of Stephen's work for many years, through his time as Halfset, Strands, on film soundtracks and now as part of Mount Alaska. My interest in Stephen stems from his experimentation as an electronic artist and producer, but also his understanding of musical language, how it can translate for an audience and his interest in working with musicians in a compelling way. Crash ensemble were delighted to premiere his piece 'One Day’ to the world in 2021, and look forward to what Stephen does next.
Neva Elliott McGinley (CEO Crash Ensemble 2011 - 2021)

Stephen was an absolute pleasure to work with. He brought so much emotional depth to the soundtrack and nailed it on the first draft. I’ve had the great pleasure of working with Steve on two albums now and still marvel at how he can transform the loosest of musical sketches that we might have into a fully realised oil painting. If you’re lucky enough to work with him your project will benefit enormously in countless ways. A true artist, a highly skilled and experienced technician and an absolute gentleman.
John Lambert (Chequerboard)

Steve did an unbelievable job in helping us realise our ambitions when recording our album 'Downer Disco'. Steve was heavily involved in every step of the project - engineering, arranging, playing, producing, mixing & mastering - and every aspect was done to an extremely high standard. It was a great experience and we couldn't have been more pleased with the results. Robert Baker (The Crayon Set)

Having worked closely with Steve, I can't recommend him highly enough. What he also brings to a project is musical passion, uncompromising integrity and a rare willingness to strike out into uncharted, often audacious territory.
Michael Stevens (Popical Island Records, songwriter)

have worked with Stephen Shannon for over 15 years both arranging, producing and playing as a session musician. Stephen is a brilliant and creative engineer who's inventive ear adds immeasurably to all of the projects he works on. He also makes very good coffee and laughs at my jokes. I think.
Mary Barnecutt (composer, multi-instrumentalist).

Stephen and I have worked on many projects together. I’ve massive respect for him both as a musician, producer and as a person. He’s one of the few people I’ve met in music who has the capacity for both detail-oriented and big picture thinking. Una Keane (composer, pianist)
